Charles "Charlie" Donaghy

Charles "Charlie" Donaghy, 83, passed peacefully March 11, 2023 in his longtime adopted hometown of Park Ridge, Illinois. A proud native of the Bronx, New York City, he is survived by his wife of fifty years Bettina Donaghy nee Colletti, daughter Theresa Donaghy (Ian Kelly), son Michael (Kathryn) Donaghy, granddaughters Eleanor and Amelia Donaghy, and countless nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.
Despite leaving high school in order to support his younger siblings, Charlie ultimately received his Master's degree from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. From working on the Brooklyn waterfront, to programming the world's first supercomputers, to being recognized by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for professional excellence, Charlie achieved numerous career successes. Upon retirement he volunteered for sixteen years with Seasons Hospice, comforting hundreds of strangers at all hours in their time of greatest need.
Charlie had two children, but he was a father to many. His constancy, deep integrity, and unfailingly joyful nature brought healing and humor to all who met him. Easy generosity and a love of learning, punctuated by a beaming smile and boisterous laughter, marked his every day. He will be missed by the scores of people whose lives he touched.

A celebration of life will be announced shortly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Township Emergency Food Pantry.
