Waring Scribner Jenkins passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2021, age 86, following a brief illness. He was the loving Uncle to Robert (Angela), Steven, and Paul (Jill) Schermerhorn, Great Uncle to Colin, Sean, Rylan, Olivia, and Bryson. He was preceded in death by his Father Charles Howard Jenkins, Mother Ruth Jenkins (nee Kammerzell), brother Charles Jenkins, sister Joan Schermerhorn (nee Jenkins), brother in-law Robert Schermerhorn Sr., and long-time significant other Marianne Schulze.
“Unk”, as he was known to family and friends alike, was a consummate class act who loved his family, friends, and neighbors. He was a devoted employee of Stamar Packaging for his entire career, and counted many of his customers among his close friends. He was a die-hard Chicago Bears and Blackhawks fan, enjoyed car shows with his 1931 Ford Model A, and relished leisurely rounds of golf with his buddies. He spoke fondly of his high school days at Northwestern Military Academy (NWMA) in Lake Geneva, WI, of which he was a proud graduate in 1952. Waring graduated from Monmouth College in 1956 and then served in the Army for six years, rising to the rank of Sergeant.
Waring was a lifelong resident of Park Ridge, and an ardent historian of his family heritage. He will be fondly remembered for his patriotism, his unfailing good nature, and his familiar salutation, “Have the best day that you can!” Given restrictions due to COVID-19, funeral services and burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Waring wished any memorials be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Wounded Warrior Project.
