Robert "Bob" E. Schell

Robert E. Schell "Bob". Age 80 of Des Plaines formerly of Park Ridge. Beloved husband of Patricia A., nee Zaucha. Loving father of Karen Schell (Roger) Gale and Michael Schell. Devoted grandfather of Connor and Colin Gale. Also survived by many loving family members and friends. Bob was a graduate of St. Gregory High School class of 1958.  He and his wife attended many class reunions. Bob was a graduate of DePaul University. He went to DePaul on a basketball scholarship and played under Coach Ray Meyer. He was a member of the Tau Sigma Fraternity at De Paul. He was a member of the US Army Reserves. Bob worked for Martin Boyer Company and then for Aon Corp. handling Workman’s Compensation cases. He was a great sports enthusiast as well a walking encyclopedia for sports. He had been attending Bears games since 1946, when his father took him to his first game. He attended many Cubs games and was ecstatic when the Cubs finally won the World Series in 2016, and he was able to attend a World Series game in person. There were many other sporting events he attended, including: Bulls games, Blackhawk games, DePaul basketball games, Northwestern basketball and football games. Bob played in many sporting softball and basketball park leagues and won numerous championships. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing the sport four days a week. Bob was very family oriented, family meant everything to him. He and his family went on many vacations together. Arizona was his favorite vacation spot and seeing the Cubs at Spring Training, for 46 years, was always a highlight of the vacation. Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, January 29 at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, Park Ridge. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Des Plaines and followed by interment in Maryhill Cemetery.
