Richard B. "Dick" Stranahan

May 4, 1929 – October 16, 2020

Richard B. "Dick" Stranahan, age 91, passed away on October 16, 2020. Beloved husband of 52 years to the late Eloise (nee Smith), loving father of Chip (Vivian), and proud grandfather of David and Elizabeth. Dearest son of the late Richard B. and Elizabeth (nee Bennett) Stranahan. Born in Fargo, North Dakota and raised in Des Plaines, Illinois, he attended Maine Township High School (now Maine East) and graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Dick was a US Navy veteran and worked for more than 40 years in raw materials sales. An active community volunteer, he served 8 years as Commissioner of the Park Ridge Park District, 3 years as Vice President of the Maine-Niles Association of Special Recreation, and 10 years on the Executive Committee for Park Ridge Youth Soccer. He also served as the Architectural Committee Chair, President of Condo 10, and the Chairman of the Public Works committee at Lake Barrington Shores. A music lover and avid Green Bay Packers fan, Dick is loved and celebrated by his family and many friends in Des Plaines, Park Ridge, and Lake Barrington Shores. A memorial service is planned for the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or Knox College.
