Marie Conway

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Marie, our precious wife, mother, and
grandmother whose lives she filled with unwavering and unconditional love. Marie, age 81,
passed away peacefully in her home with her husband and children at her side.
Marie was born in Buncrana, County Donegal, Ireland, but her family moved to Glasgow,
Scotland, when she was three years old. At age 17, she saw a “glamorous” American movie
and she and a friend decided they must move to New York City. After three years in New York,
they were ready to see some palm trees. They made their way down to Florida and enjoyed the
warm weather, but soon heard that Chicago was the place to be and had a strong Irish
community. Two bus tickets and many hours later, they arrived in Chicago for what would
become Marie’s American home.
During the early 60’s in Chicago, Marie would go dancing many nights a week with all of her
Irish friends. It was at one of these dances that she met her husband, Kevin. Kevin asked her to
dance and he never let go. They married on December 10, 1966. Kevin and Marie went on to
have four children: Jim, Ann, Brendan, and Eileen. Marie treasured her children and she
endlessly supported us in all that we did. She was our biggest cheerleader; the best listener and
advice giver; and gave the best hugs in the world. Her eyes would light up when she greeted
her family and the love could be heard in her voice. She passionately loved her family and she
instilled the importance of that in each of us. Her loving presence will be missed every day, but
she will forever be a part of us.
Marie enjoyed singing, dancing, conversation, story-telling, and playing with her grandchildren.
She had a vivid imagination and a gift for making life feel magical. She often shared her love
through food and was known for making the best cheeseburger on the planet.
Marie is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 55 years, Kevin Conway and children,
Jim (Claire), Ann (Peter), Brendan (Alexis), and Eileen (Dan); grandchildren, Alexander,
Eleanore, Lila, Brendan, Tommy, Nicky, Natalie, and Kevin; and many loving nieces and
nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Bridget (nee O’Rourke)
McGinley; her siblings, Patrick McGinley, Simon McGinley, Frances Jamieson, and Bridie
Molnar; her nephew Simon McGinley; and her dear sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
A celebration of Marie’s life will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022. A memorial visitation will take
place at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 S. Northwest Highway in Park Ridge from 9:00 a.m. to
11:00 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church, 7211 W. Talcott Avenue in Chicago.
