Joseph E. Cwik. Age 51 of Park Ridge, Illinois. Born in San Diego, California on January 3, 1969, passed away on February 4, 2020. A natural athlete who enjoyed golfing, played hockey throughout his lifetime, an avid triathlete who completed two Ironman triathlons and continued to run, bike and swim up until it was no longer possible. He spent many memorable summers with family and friends boating and playing on the lake.
Joe received his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Following graduation, he studied law at John Marshall Law School. Joe was brilliant Intellectual Property trial attorney who practiced for over 20 years with several prestigious law firms in Chicago. Most recently, he was a founding partner of Upadhye Cwik LLP. Joe was the lead trial attorney on several cases which set new legal precedent and carved out new law in the pharmaceutical patent sector. He was a published author in numerous legal journals, web forums and books in his area of expertise. His strong work ethic, sharp skills in the courtroom and excellent communication abilities made Joe highly respected in his field.
Joe, the beloved husband of Theresa (nee Westfallen) and devoted father of Mark Cwik, loving son of Susan Jane (nee Fitch) Cwik and the late Ronald Cwik, loving son-in-law of Ronald Westfallen and Rosemary (nee O'Heren) Westfallen, dear brother of David (Carrey) Cwik, and Daniel Cwik, loving brother-in-law of Stephen Westfallen, Vincent (Jennifer) Westfallen, Jennifer (Vince) Crowley, Matthew (Jennifer) Westfallen, Paul (Elizabeth) Westfallen, dear uncle of many adoring nieces and nephews. Beloved nephew of Carol (nee Cwik) Petty, and Gordon (Eileen) Fitch.
A true friend, devoted follower of Jesus Christ who demonstrated to all who loved him how to live with dignity and grace up until the moment he left us due to metastatic esophageal cancer.
Visitation Thursday, February 6, 4-8 p.m. at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 S. Northwest Hwy., Park Ridge. Funeral Friday, friends and family to meet at St. Paul of the Cross Church, 140 S.
