John 'Mike' Michael Garrity

John Michael 'Mike' Garrity age 83, beloved husband, partner, brother, uncle, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully with family by his side on October 27, 2023, after a short illness.

Mike was born to John and Jane Garrity and was raised in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the US Navy, where he was a radio navigator on TF Trader planes, delivering supplies to aircraft carriers. After his service, he began his career in insurance, which included executive roles at multiple leading reinsurance brokerage firms.

Mike took great pride in being a military veteran and continued to give to others throughout his life by volunteering at local schools, the American Cancer Society, Joyful Again and various outreach programs through his church and community. His other passions included the Cubs, sailing, skiing and golfing (especially the 19th hole comradery).

Mike was an unassuming guy who prioritized family and cherished friendships. With a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye, he lived a full life and always welcomed the opportunity to make new friends - with whom his warmth and generosity were dependably shared.

He married Brigid (Betty) Kelly in 1964 and had three children; Kelly (Steve) Keogh, Brigid (Jim) Stonebridge and Michael (Tara). Mike and Betty shared 27 years of marriage until her death. He found love again with Dolores Kelley, his partner for his final 30 years. Mike loved being Papa to his adoring grandchildren; Patrick and Olivia Keogh; Will, Bridie and John Michael Stonebridge; Finbarr, Lochlan and Maeve Garrity. Mike is also survived by his sister Pat (Frank) Pasterz and Betsy (Mike) Larocco and was preceded in death by his siblings Jim Garrity and Nancy Connolly. Mike was a resident of Surprise, AZ and formerly, Park Ridge, IL.

Lying-in-state from 10:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 6th, at Mary Seat of Wisdom Church, 920 Granville Ave., Park Ridge, IL 60068. Interment Private.

A celebration of life to be held in Arizona at Angela’s Kitchen, 19900 N Remington Dr., Surprise, AZ on Monday, November 13th, from 2-4pm.
