Bernard D. "Bernie" Sir. Age 82 of Park Ridge, IL -It is with great sadness and love that we announce the Lord has sent for Bernie Sir to take him to his eternal peace. Bernie was born in Chicago and raised in Sacred Heart Parish on Chicago’s South Side by his parents, Edwin and Margaret, nee Walsh. He was a proud graduate of St. Ignatius High School and Quincy College, where he had success both in the classroom and on the basketball court. It was at Quincy College that he met his beloved wife, Patricia, nee Cassin. Patricia and Bernie were married October 22, 1960 and ultimately settled in Park Ridge, IL where they raised three loving children, Brian (Nadine), Colleen (Jerry) Prendergast, and Michael. Bernie enjoyed a long career as an Insurance Sales Executive working for Allstate, CNA and Mutual of Omaha. He was also a long-time youth basketball coach in Park Ridge and was instrumental in starting the girl’s youth basketball program. Bernie was a longtime parishioner of Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church where he introduced Uncle Pete’s Ministry to the parish which distributes sack meals to those in need. He was also generous to many other causes, including the Campaign for the Campus Expansion of Chicago Hope Academy. Besides his children and their spouses, Bernie is survived by his sister Kathleen (Ken) Buckley and his adoring grandchildren: Alex (Kelsey), Brian, Haleigh, Matthew, Brendan and Grace. Bernie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia, his parents, Edwin and Margaret, his in-laws, Howard and Olive Cassin and his brother-in-law, James Cassin. He was also the fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. Further, Bernie was especially proud of his many uncles who served in WWII and later in the Chicago Police and Fire Departments. A private funeral mass and interment will be held on Saturday, February 20th, however livestream of the funeral mass at 11 a.m. will be available at: www.mswparish.org.
