Our family's condolences to Gail, Ed, Buzz, family and close friends. I (John Riordan) did not really get to know Marlene well until after our fathers died and Mom (Rosemary) and Marie spent more time together. That twosome expanded to a foursome with Marlene and me included in several occasions, in the Chicago area and up here at Willrose Farm (Belgium, WI).

For some years, after our Moms died, Marlene and I continued our friendship and support. I am grateful for Marlene's kindness and outreach.

With sympathy and best regards: Bill/Kathy, Rosemary/Leonard (Palicki), John and families.

Marlene was a friend and special cousin. My childhood memories are of her giving me piggyback rides and playing hide & seek in the dark. We also did scrap booking together. Marlene's was of Ester Williams and mine was Roy Rogers.
Aunt Care remembers a beautiful little girl with curly dark hair who grew into a kind woman with a gentle spirit.
In recent years, our cousins gathering were a highlight of each season. Just one month ago we enjoyed a lovely afternoon together at Marlene's new home celebrating her birthday. We will miss her terribly.
We send love and prayers to Gail, Eddie & Buzz and to the nieces & nephews and to dear friend Marilyn too. Aunt Care & Carole Anne

Our sincerest condolences to the whole Mertes family. Marlene had a kind heart and a warm smile, and was always good to the Bud & Kathy Mertes' children (Art, Chris, Kathryn, Don, Sally & Rob-Bob). We will miss Marlene, and know she is now in heaven with Bud and Leon.

With Love,

Art, Anja, Ava & Anneka Mertes

Marlene was a great friend. We always had fun going to concerts, plays and even finding a new ice cream play or pie house to try out after a night of concerts with our groups of friends. she always had a smile on her face. Marlene will be missed. a donation has been made to Sloan Kettering CANCER center
