Margaret M. (nee Lambert) Talbot-Haverkamp

Margaret Mary “Marty” Talbot-Haverkamp (nee Lambert) of Vienna, Virginia was born on May 22, 1935 to the late Lester C. and Margaret Lambert. Born in Chicago, Marty was a graduate of Trinity High School and attended Loyola University. She passed away on October 11, 2017, surrounded by her family.

Marty was the beloved wife of the late George T. Talbot, Jr. and the late Robert E. Haverkamp; darling sister of Lester J. (Judy) Lambert and Dorothy (the late Albert) Brion; loving mother of Margaret (Chet), George, Kevin (Patti), Timothy (Alison), Matthew (Christie), and David (Veronica); cherished grandmother of Kate (Justin), Rita (Roger), Brian, Kaitlin, Patrick, Morgan (Zak), Meghan, Cooper, Nathan, Kayla, Aubrey, and Eli; and fond aunt to Lester, Brian, and John.

Marty was a devoted military wife and mother, and thus she became an accomplished mover and traveler, having packed up her husband, six kids and all of their possessions almost 30 times over the years. Her children all agree that her greatest accomplishment was that she made every house a home wherever they lived and each home always reflected the many places they traveled.

She treasured her summers at her lakeside cottage in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, where she enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, spending time with family and friends, Fourth of July fireworks, Hodag Country Fest, pontoon boat rides, playing board games, grilling out and Friday fish fry at Al-Gen’s, eating fresh corn on the cob, and occasional trips to Jets Dairy Bar. She enjoyed her grandchildren who were always bringing her one critter or another from the pond or lake, and lovingly threatened a pinch if anyone misbehaved.. The cabin will never be the same without her.

Marty cherished her Rhinelander cousins, semi-annual get-togethers with her long-time Trinity High School friends, working with the Fort Myer Thrift Shop ladies, playing bridge regularly, and was an active Gold Star Wives member, defending the rights of military widows and their children.

She was a talented sewer, artist, treasure hunter, and known for her unusual “mastery” of the Spanish language.

Marty especially loved her yellow bathing suit as a child and totally rocked wearing leather pants at the age of 82. She had a “unique” fashion sense; was a wonderful storyteller; was known for her wit; had highly recognizable penmanship; and was an expert at finding and sharing treasures. Up until almost her last moments on earth, she could always manage to raise an eyebrow of disapproval when it was warranted. A common theme shared by many friends who have reached out to us since her passing is that Marty was great fun to be with, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was a highly dependable friend.

Margaret Mary Rose was truly one of a kind and will be dearly missed. We all hope and pray that George was waiting for her on that pink cloud which she always dreamed he would. We will love her forever

Memorial visitation Thursday, October 19, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., in the St. Paul of the Cross Church Holy Family Chapel (lower level), 140 S. Northwest Hwy, (2 blks. S. of Touhy), Park Ridge. Memorial Mass begins at 12:30 p.m. in main church (upper level). Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, are appreciated.
