Lucile M. Gustafson, nee Jackson, 80 of Barrington, IL passed away on the 22nd of August, 2016, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Born September 12, 1935, in Berwyn, IL, Lu was the daughter of the late William and Lucile, nee Carton, Jackson and sister of the late Frances Jackson. She was the beloved wife of Harold F. Fendius for 12 years and the late Richard W. Gustafson for more than 40 years; loving mother of the late Jeanne Gustafson, Bob Gustafson and Mary Ann (Rich) Roeser; devoted grandmother of Richard and Derek Gustafson and Paige Roeser. Lu dearly loved Hal’s family; Kurt (Rita) Fendius (Dan, Charlie, Claire), Carol (Jeff) Nelms (Brian, Emily), Paula Fendius and great grandchildren Natalie and Jenna.
Lu grew up in Park Ridge, IL attending school at Lincoln Elementary, Maine Township High School and later Albion College in Michigan. She enjoyed a career with Motorola as an executive assistant with Motorola University. She cherished her travels, which brought her all over the United States and the world for vacations and bicycling, and at the age of 60 she even biked across Death Valley, California. Lu’s faith has always been important to her and she was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for 43 years where she served on the vestry, altar guild and many other groups. She was an active volunteer in the Barrington community and in 2003 was inducted into the Barrington Area Council on Aging Hall of Fame, honoring volunteers. Lu loved holding hands with Hal, spending time with her children and grandchildren Richard, Derek and Paige, her lifelong and new friends, knitting, gardening, walks and shelling on the beach in Siesta Key, and anything involving chocolate. She had a beautiful smile and a fun sense of humor and is smiling in heaven with a full heart and mind.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 337 Ridge Rd., Barrington Hills, IL 60010, with a reception following at Barrington Hills Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mark's Episcopal Church are appreciated.
